I know a lot about Windows operating systems, as I have used and owned a few of them. I've owned a copy of Windows 3.1 (either Windows for Workgroups 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11), Windows 98 (I believe it was Windows 98 SE), Windows Me, Windows XP Home Edition, and Windows Vista Home Premium.

Now, I own an Asus K52JR-X5 which has Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). Windows 7 has given me no problems and is a big improvement over Windows Vista (more specifically Windows Vista Home Premium), which I have on my Dell Dimension E520. When I put down my computer's screen, Windows 7 Home Premium automatically enters Hibernation mode, which is a mode similar to shutting down the computer with one main difference: When you leave Hibernation mode, everything that you had open is still there. To leave Hibernation mode, I simply lift the computer's screen, and press the power button. It's much better than simply shutting down my PC and having to re-open things.

The interface is better than any operating system I've used, and I have used Mac OS X Leopard before. I like that I'm able to put programs that I use on the Taskbar, which is like how the Dock works on Mac OS X Leopard. I also like that the date is always shown beneath the clock.

All of the programs that I want work on Windows 7 Home Premium, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The latest operating system that game supports is Windows XP, yet fortunately it works on both Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) and Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). I find that great, because not only does that game not support Windows 7, but it is a 32-bit program, yet it works fine on 64-bit.

Overall, I love Windows 7 Home Premium. I highly recommend it if you're looking to upgrade your computer from an older version of Windows or looking for a new computer with a Windows operating system on it.

Looking at Microsoft's feature matrix it would appear that Home Premium is all 90% or so of home AND office users need. But there's a lot they don't tell you.

If you are a home user with one computer and never want to network/connect/share with another computer... OK.

If you want to use Remote Desktop Protocol (I.e. share your screen with someone remotely so that they can help you on your computer), or you want to connect to an XP, Mac, Linux or any other device NOT running Vista or Windows 7 then the Home "Premium" version isn't for you.

The only thing premium about the "Home Premium" edition is the price. In my opinion, anyone but the most basic computer user should get Windows 7 Professional. The price difference isn't that great (I paid $129 for mine here on Amazon today) and it isn't crippled.

If Home Premium would really do the job for you, then you'll probably do just as well installing Ubuntu Linux and it wouldn't cost you a cent.

Windows 7 is the worst piece of 'software' I've ever encountered. Microsoft, believing it is its 'due' to impose this monstrosity on the world
to pack even more into its coffers has produced a nightmare.
They should have stuck with Windows XP. Better yet, DOS 6.22.2. Honest to God, I'd even prefer CP/M to this!
